About Kathryn Lopez

Kathryn Lopez - Artistic Director & Resident Choreographer

keepin' the light on

Kathryn Adele Lopez is native to the Bay Area and has enjoyed being a part of producing theatre and dance for over 16 years. Although Kathryn has her BA in Political Science with a minor in History from UC Davis, as well as her Social Science Teaching Credential, it was her experience in the dance classroom that led her to become part of a dance company based out of Oakland, Behold Dance Collective (BDC). Kathryn not only served on the Board of Directors leading BDC to become a 501c3, but was an active dancer, choreographer, producer, and director. Kathryn has taught ballet, contemporary and jazz locally for over 12 years at East County Performing Arts Center (ECPAC), and is a resident choreographer for The Ballet Company of East County where she has choreographed for the Nutcracker Ballet and Alice in Wonderland, beginning this career writing an original children’s ballet entitled Goldilocks
Kathryn switched to Musical Theatre 7 years ago when a friend who was moving out of state asked Kathryn to meet with Helen Dixon, then the Theatre Director for Liberty High School’s Playmakers. Since then Kathryn has choreographed for Edna Hill Middle School, Brentwood Theater Company, and Temple Hill’s Production of Scrooge the Musical, and continues to choreograph for LHS Playmakers. Kathryn was the movement/stunt choreographer for Ghostlight's inaugural production, Man of La Mancha. She also choreographed HONK! and directed the 2020 PAYA production of Heroes & Villains. She became the Artistic Director of Ghostlight Theatre Ensemble in August 2021.
Kathryn enjoys the challenge of choreographing for all levels of dancers while creating an active learning environment. Kathryn is excited to be a part of the Board of Directors of Ghostlight Theatre Ensemble, and is grateful to be creating community through theatre. She couldn’t do any of it without the support of her husband and 3 children.
